Por Flavor

By: Ginah Lasta

Take in the architectural beauty of World Market Center while you dine at one of our favorite downtown eateries, Mundo. The contemporary Mexican eatery features a menu designed by Chef Robert Solano who uses fresh and quality ingredients to create harmonious flavors. It’s a great place to admire the downtown dames. The ambiance, food and dangerously delicious cocktails may even have you walking the walk of fame the next morning.

Salud!

With the bright lights of the strip blinding us with overpriced experiences, it’s sometimes hard to see the real gems throughout the city. On top of this list of treasures is Mundo Restaurant, located in the heart of the World Market Center.  In this downtown diamond, you will find the most delicious Mexican cuisine you can find in town. Not only will your palette be pampered, you will be surrounded with beautiful ambience and excellent service. This is not an accident.

Chef Robert Solano, culinary mastermind and co-owner of Mundo has a gift for orchestrating flavors. Every dish on the menu starts off sounding traditional and then ends with a kick. Growing up in Mexico, Chef Robert remembers the tastes and aromas of the elderly Mexican women cooking at the market place.  “That was my favorite.”  He goes on to explain that those are always the flavors he is chasing, the memories of authentic Mexican food from his childhood.

Chef Robert’s career had many stops before landing at Mundo. He started off as a dishwasher, staying after work and experimenting with ingredients. His work ethic is that of a successful chef, never letting ego interfere with advancement. When he got his first job cooking on the line, his executive chef fired him 3 or 4 times a day, but Solano kept showing up and giving it his all. Eventually Chef Robert began to catch the attention of Hotel executives. His concentration wasn’t only on the kitchen alone, but he always knows what’s happening in the front of the house too. He has opened several hotel restaurants, but he was able to showcase his skills at La Madonna, the restaurant previously owned by Co-partners of Mundo. The food was right, but the time was wrong and La Madonna ended up closing their doors during the economy crash.

The opportunity arose for the café in World Market to become a restaurant, and Chef Robert and partner George Harris were recruited to take charge. Together they have collaborated on a beautiful downtown dining experience. The food is delectable. The architecture and décor is second to none, the cocktails are fresh and dangerously delicious and the service can’t be beat, this is where Chef Robert was destined to be.

There is no better place outside of your own home to break bread with friends, families or colleagues. The intimate experience of dining at Mundo will leave you satisfied and make you a customer for life.
